Watch Toy Hunters on Travel Channel January 15th

What do you get when you combine the thrill of finding vintage toys with a touch of history and travel?  Toy Hunters!  This fun new show debuts January 15th on the Travel Channel.  Watch as Jordan Hembrough of Hollywood Heroes scours the US searching for rare and collectible toys.  The show feels like a mix between Pawn Stars and American Pickers, and looks to be very entertaining.

The show begins with Jordan touching down in Cincinnati, the home of Kenner toys!  He’s in town with a budget and a mission.  That mission is to hunt down and acquire as many collectible toys as he can in order to have a successful showing at the New York Comic Con.  But before he can hit New York, he has to visit Miami for a shot at one more toy.

If you are a fan of Kenner toys and the thrill of the hunt, you are going to love this show!  Tune in January 15th at 11PM EST to start hunting!

Kenner Employee Price Lists for 1983, 1984, and 1985

Seems like everyone I run into in the Cincinnati area knows someone who used to work at Kenner, or knows someone who knows someone who worked there.  One of the benefits of working at Kenner was the ability to purchase toys directly from the company store.  I am sure this was especially appreciated around Christmas time.

The following lists show the prices employees paid for toys directly from Kenner:

1984 Kenner Employee Price List (258K PDF)

Brand new Droids A-Wing Fighter for $10.40?  Yes please!  After you check out, don’t forget to keep your receipt! If I could just get the last few minor details of time travel worked out, I’m going back in time with these lists in hand to look some people up for some serious shopping.

Play-Doh Stocking Stuffers Cardboard Store Display

Play-Doh Christmas Store Display

Merry Christmas from KennerCollector.com!  This is a fun Christmas themed store display from Play-Doh.  The thin cardboard display is printed on one side, and has a fold line running horizontally across the top of the display.  It also has a die cut line over the Play-Doh logo which would allow for the logo to stick up when the sign was folded over and attached to a shelf.

The display features the Play-Doh Boy placing cans of Play-Doh into a stocking and says “Remember Play-Doh for Stocking Stuffers”  The display is 10″ wide by 16″ tall.

Play-Doh was originally created by the Rainbow Crafts Company in 1956.  Rainbow Crafts was purchased by General Mills in 1965 and became a part of the Kenner toy line in 1970.

Blythe Returns to the Toy Aisle!

Kenner Blythe Littlest Pet Shop

Don’t call it a comeback!  In case you haven’t been down the toy aisle lately, there’s a familiar face back on the Kenner collecting scene.  Blythe is back!  Hasbro has teamed the big eyed beauty up with Littlest Pet Shop to create several different fun play sets.

Check out the cool new Blythe sets here on the Hasbro website.

Kenner released the original Blythe dolls in 1972, and unfortunately killed the line the same year due to poor sales.  The dolls have been wildly popular on the collector’s market, and don’t show any signs of slowing down!  To catch yourself up on the awesome world of Blythe, check out these great sites:

Kenner’s Robin Hood Line Created by Dr. Frankenstein?

Kenner's Robin Hood & Super Powers ComparisonAction Figure Insider has posted a great article over on their blog about how the designers of Kenner’s Robin Hood line borrowed many ideas from other toy lines when creating the action figures and play sets.  Amazing to see how much influence the Super Powers line had on it.  Definitely a fun read.

This also reminds me of an article Ron Salvatore wrote a while back over on the Star Wars Collector’s Archive.  His article focused on the many different Star Wars related toys that were created  from older Kenner toy lines, and the toys that were later created using Star Wars toys.

Awesome stuff!

Easy-Bake Oven Showdown

Kenner's Easy-Bake OvenIf you’re like me, you’re still trying to recover from the cold hard fact that cooking with a light bulb is now considered out of styleInforum.com (North Dakota’s top news site) has put together a nice Easy-Bake Oven showdown comparing the new heating element style oven with the more traditional light bulb oven we all grew up with and love.

The comparison can be found here.

They also have a quick history of Kenner’s famous oven here.

You can catch up on the new oven on the official Easy-Bake Oven page.  Be aware though, the dance number might cause violent reactions.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Kenner 1994 Toy Fair Breakfast Flashlight

Kenner 1994 Toy Fair Breakfast Flashlight

This flashlight was given away at the 1994 Kenner Toy Fair Breakfast.  The flashlight is white with the Kenner logo and the words 1994 Toy Fair Breakfast printed in blue.  It measures 3.25″ tall x 2.25″ wide x 1″ deep.

For some reason, the flashlight has a magnetic, removable blue clip.  For what, I have no idea.  Chip clip maybe?  Note holder for the refrigerator?  Either way, the flashlight is a neat little internal Kenner item.
