KennerCollector.com Sponsors Star Wars Collecting Clubs
This past year KennerCollector.com was pleased to be able to sponsor four great Star Wars collecting clubs from around the country. The clubs were the Ohio Star Wars Collectors Club, DC Metro Area Star Wars Collecting Club, Kentucky Star Wars Collectors Club, and Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society.
We provided tote bags for the clubs to use at their annual social gatherings. These tote bags were used as “goodie bags” by the clubs, and they filled them with different giveaways and other freebies. The bags were given away at the door to members attending the events.
The Kenner Collector bag is made from royal blue nylon and has two carrying handles. The bag has the Gooney Bird, the KennerCollector.com logo, and the words “It’s Kenner! It’s Fun” screen printed in white. The bag measures 12.5″ wide x 13.25″ tall x 8.5″ deep.
Here are some pictures from the different club events. It’s fun to see the Gooney Bird out and about!

The Bionic Woman Bionic Headquarters Shelf Talker
This Bionic Woman store display is called a shelf strip, or a shelf talker as it’s more commonly referred to as. The shelf talker is made of thin cardboard, printed blue with Bionic Woman graphics on one side, and unprinted on the other. In a retail environment, the shelf talker would be folded over along the horizontal crease, and attached to a shelf using the adhesive strip on back. These would be used to advertise the different toy lines to kids and adults as they walked down the toy aisle.
This shelf talker measures 24″ long x 5″ tall, and says BIONIC WOMAN BIONIC HEADQUARTERS. It has the following copyright information: GENERAL MILLS FUN GROUP, INC., 1977 by its DIV. KENNER PRODUCTS, CINCINNATI, O. 45202. It also has trademark information for Universal City Studios.
The following image is a page from the 1977 Kenner Toy Fair catalog. The catalog shows the Bionic Woman shelf talker as being pink. The color change to blue may have been a decision that was made to distinguish the Bionic Woman from the Six Million Dollar Man line.
Raider’s Of The Lost Ark 30th Anniversary Toy Tribute
You throw me the idol – I throw you the toys! In honor of the 3oth anniversary of the Indiana Jones movie, Hero Complex has been looking back at how the movie has influenced cinema and pop culture over the years. Recently Jay West put together a great article focusing on the Indiana Jones toys, including our beloved Kenner versions! Check it out here!

Kenner Gooney Bird Terminator Employee Coffee Mug
Oh no! Is that our beloved Gooney Bird getting knocked out by the Terminator!? No, it’s not the Terminator, just a new and improved Gooney Bird! This internal Kenner employee coffee mug shows a leaner, meaner Gooney Bird proudly proclaiming “I’M BACK!”
The mug image shows the bird wearing a black leather jacket with a Kenner logo on the left chest and a red t-shirt with the words “IT’S FUN” on it. The mug also has the words THE NEW KENNER on it. The mug was most likely created in the early 90’s, perhaps to coincide with Kenner producing a line of Terminator 2 movie toys in 1993. The “I’m back” and “the new Kenner” wording was probably a rallying cry to the troops to help them get back to doing what they did best, and that was creating licensed action figures.
The coffee mug is white ceramic and is 3 5/8″ tall with a 3″ diameter inside. The image is printed on both sides of the coffee mug.
Here’s a close-up of the mug image:

Kenner Employee Gooney Bird T-Shirt
Here is another great Kenner t-shirt featuring the Gooney Bird! The shirt is an internal employee item from Kenner. The green shirt is a size large, and features the saying “If it’s fun it’s Kenner” with the Kenner logo incorporated into the saying. It also has a four color Gooney Bird screen printed on it.
As always, if you have any additional details about the shirt, we would love to hear from you! Also, we’d love to hear from you if you have any internal Kenner items to sell or even just showcase on the site. Just let us know!

Kenner collectors will want to note that Tom Neiheisel, a Market Research Director with Kenner Toys during the vintage era of Star Wars, will be attending. Tom will be answering questions and telling stories about the vintage toy line and bringing some rare and one of a kind items to show off.
Here are the complete details for this weekends celebration:

Kings Island amusement park is near Mason as well, if you are looking for some family fun on Friday or Sunday.
Exclusives :
The OSWCC Summer Social wouldn’t be complete without some excellent exclusive OSWCC branded merchandise to commemorate the day! Every year we’ve done a custom proof card, and this year is no exception. In fact there will be TWO proof cards this year, each one featuring a different droid that has been featured in the Star Tours attractions at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Star Tours relaunched this year, and our proof cards commemorate the classic attraction and the re-imagined one as well.
This year we’ll have exclusive plastic name badges to collect, featuring thirteen different designs by official LucasFilm artist, Jamie Snell. Each member that RSVPs by July 26 at midnight EST will receive a personalized badge with their name on it and their appropriate design. Complete sets are currently for sale in the members only OSWCC store and will also be for sale at the Social. The set will feature an exclusive Inner Circle badge that is available only in the set. Badge Sets are only $15. There is an exclusive proof card that comes with the badge set purchase. Jamie will be on hand to do commissions and sign autographs all day.
We have two special guest speakers at the social this year. First is Steve Mays, member of the R2 Builders Club, who will talk about the complexities of building a real life R2-D2. Secondly, Tom Neiheisel was a Market Research Director with Kenner Toys during the vintage era of Star Wars. Tom will be answering questions and telling stories about the vintage toy line and bringing some rare and one of a kind items to show off. We are very excited to have both of these gentlemen attending the Social for the first time.
OSWCC 2011 R2 Ohio shirts will be distributed to those members who pre-ordered and a very limited number will be for sale at the Social. Don’t forget the OSWCC goody bag as you come in the door! The goody bag is for fully paid OSWCC members only, first come first served while supplies last.
Add to all of this our traditional raffle, our fun filled charity auction which benefits the Ronald McDonald House, games, sales area, guest panels, food and a few other surprises, and we’ve got one terrific day of Star Wars fun planned for the OSWCC membership!
For more information, OSWCC Members can log into the discussion forums. For non-members, feel free to come by and check us out! The Social is a great opportunity to see what OSWCC is all about. Admission is only $5 at the door, and while everyone is welcome, any non-member under 18 must be accompanied by their parent or guardian. Any questions please send an email to social@oswcc.com.

Time Machine: Starting Lineup Sealed Cases
Ok, I admit it. This update is only for the most hard core toy collector or Kenner fan. Remember when, at some point in your adult life, you realized that the things you had as a kid had a value? You realized that people actually collected the stuff you played with, and often, that the stuff was still in it’s original packaging. Not long after this discovery, there’s always the thought, “If I only had a time machine! How neat would it be to go back in time and get all of this stuff in its original packaging!”
The fun thing is, the reason stuff we collect still exists in its original packaging is because someone decided long ago to keep it that way when they brought it home from the store. Those are the folks we owe much of our hobby to. Sometimes, it’s just a forgotten gift, hidden long ago and recently discovered. Sometimes it’s more than that. This is one of those times.
Behold collector Joe C’s sealed cases of Starting Lineup action figures. Starting Lineup combined two distinct hobbies, sports card and toy collecting, with great results. It was one of Kenner’s hottest properties in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
