Kenner’s Daddy Saddle – 1965 Toy Fair Catalog

Of all the Kenner toys that I have run across, this is by far my favorite and at the top of my most wanted list.  The Daddy Saddle is a vinyl coated, foam rubber saddle that was sold as a way to rectify the apparently faulty, time honored tradition of playing “horsie”.

Most kids would be perfectly content riding around on their parents bareback style, but this was a need Kenner thought they couldn’t pass up.  As rare as these toys seem to be, I’m thinking Kenner missed the mark on the demand.  That or the toy caught on with the S&M crowd and things went horribly wrong from there.

The picture below is from Kenner’s 1965 Toy Fair catalog.

1965 Kenner Daddy Saddle Ad

I love the look on the girl’s face in the lower left hand corner.  Sure the ad says for “when Daddy’s out on the range,” but who did they think they were kidding?  This is the face of a little girl with no daddy to ride and she is clearly going to have daddy issues when she grows up!

Kenner Morgue Inventory List Part 2

Here is the second part of the Morgue inventory list.  If you missed the intro and first part of the list, it can be found here. As a reminder, the green highlighted items were to be sent to Hasbro in Rhode Island.  The TX and HX were codes for the person responsible for grinding/destroying the item.

This is the second of six updates about the Morgue inventory list.  The entire document is 128 pages long.

Here is a link to the third update.

Kenner’s Rex The Tyrannosaurus Toy

6 feet long.  5 feet tall.  100% awesomeness.  This is one of my favorite Kenner toys of all time.  The image below is a page from the 1968 Kenner Toy Fair catalog.

2001: A Space Odyssey Monolith Action Figure

In case you missed it this past April 1st, here is ThinkGeek’s Monolith Action Figure.  With zero points of articulation, it’s sure to be a hit with even the most demanding toy collector.  Here are the details from ThinkGeek’s product page:

  • Properly proportioned to those in the movies 2001 and 2010 (1:4:9 – the squares of the first 3 integers).
  • Made of semisynthetic, organic, amorphous, solid materials (AKA plastic).
  • Zero (0) points of articulation.
  • May cause strange magnetic fields, action figure evolution, seeing things filled with stars, and/or more (or it might just sit on your desk doing nothing).
  • Dimensions: .75″ x 3″ x 6.75″

The best part to me is the director’s name (Stanley Kubrick) used as the Kenner-esque style logo in the lower right hand corner.  It started as an April Fool’s joke, but it’s now available for purchase.  Click here to buy one!

Receipts From Kenner Employee Store

Here are a couple of receipts from the Kenner Employee Store.  The store was set up on Kenner property as a benefit for employees to purchase toys at a discount.  I have heard stories of employees that bought large quantities of toys only to take them to the weekend flea markets in Cincinnati to re-sell.  Scalping right from the source!
